L'alcoolisme: Que sais-je?
L'alcoolisme: Que sais-je? (Alcoholism: What do I know?) is a classic series of encyclopaedic dimensions which has been in production for at least 40 years. They are inexpensive little paperbacks written for the intelligent lay man or university student. The author of this volume is a distinguished retired professor of psychiatry, from the leading edge of French alcohol treatment research for many years. The book is packed full of wise detail covering prevention, treatment, and legislative aspects of alcohol use in France today. Physical damage is covered. Recent advances in genetics and psychopharmacology are fluently covered in an easy style.
There are diagnostic categories which are in use in France which do not easily translate into the ICD-10 or DSM categorizations. They are presented with typical good clinical sense.
This remarkable little book could be recommended to all students at French medical schools, social work and psychology courses and should be available on bookshelves at clinics for patients to read.
